The HydroCare version of Ficus maclellandii Alii is a relatively new cultivar that makes a wonderful low-maintenance house plant. Alii has long, slender leaves that taper to a point (their other common name is Narrow Leafed Fig). With attractive, glossy leaves and graceful, arching stems that are almost palm-like in appearance, it is a versatile and attractive indoor green foliage option.

Horty Hints
The brighter the better! Ficus Alii is more robust than its cousins, but will drop some leaves if it doesn’t get enough bright light.
Leaf drop may also occur due to a poor watering schedule. Adjust as necessary and your plant should quickly recover.
Trim to maintain the desired shape for your Ficus, but be aware that sticky latex will ooze from the ends of the cut stems! This can be an irritant so make sure to wash your hands afterwards.
Light
Ficus Alii prefers bright, indirect light, but can tolerate partial shade. Direct sunlight may scorch the leaves. It is less likely than other Ficus to drop its leaves when moved.
Watering
Keep an eye on the water meter. Water when the meter has been on minimum for 7 to 10 days. See our HydroCare set up guide for more information.
Temperature
The Ficus Alii does well in normal household temperatures but prefers slightly warmer conditions: between 16-24°C. Avoid cold draughts.
Humidity
This Ficus has no specific humidity requirements, although the occasional misting wouldn’t go amiss.
Feed
Add a Hydroculture liquid feed every 2 to 3 waterings during the spring and summer months.
Height & Growth Rate
This Ficus is fast-growing in optimum conditions, usually reaching an ultimate height of 3 metres. Prune to maintain desired height.
Toxicity
Considered poisonous due to the latex in the sap, therefore keep away from children and animals. Avoid this plant if you have a latex allergy. Contains allergens that may result in asthma symptoms.
Air Purifying
This plant filters airborne toxins such as benzene and formaldehyde and is part of our clean air plant collection.
Origin
Ficus maclellandii Alii originates from South East Asia, India and China.
