Senecio rowleyanus is a wonderful succulent with amazing, trailing stems of oval, bead-like leaves, each with a vertical, semi-translucent line running to its tip which assists photosynthesis. Flowers appear on tall, slender stems as small, white fuzzy daisies.
String of Pearls plants are relatively fast growing so give them room to trail for green impact. Perfect for hanging baskets or cascading from shelves. A close relative of Senecio herreianus – String of Beads.
Please note: String of Pearls vines are coiled in the packaging by the growers to protect them in transit. On opening, we recommend gently unfurling the coils and teasing apart the vines around the pot. If you rush this stage, you risk losing some of the pearls. Let the coils hang for several days before continuing to gently separate the vines (patience is a virtue). Some foliage loss is unavoidable, however they are fast growing plants and will regenerate quickly.
Senecio rowleyanus – String of Pearls Care & Info Guide
Horty Hints
Bottoms up! The ideal way to water your Senecio rowleyanus is to pop it on a tray/dish, allowing it to soak up the water from the roots upwards to avoid the ‘pearls’ on top sitting in excess water.
Say no to those watering woes! The Secencio rowleyanus is drought tolerant and can often go 2-3 weeks without any additional water, making it an ideal, easy care addition to your home.
A little off the top! If you notice your String of Pearls is becoming unruly with long, straggly stems, simply trim to desired length.
Light
Senecio rowleyanus enjoys bright, indirect light through to partial shade. Avoid exposing your plant to harsh midday sunlight, but some morning or late afternoon sun would be a bonus.

The Senecio rowleyanus does fine in average home humidity, but will thrive in slightly more humid environments such as the kitchen or bathroom or with the occasional misting.
