Zamioculcas Zamiifolia – Raven ZZ Plant

The Raven ZZ Plant, also known as Zamioculcas zamiifolia Dowon, Jet-Black Raven or Black Zanzibar Gem, is a highly coveted variety of the popular ZZ houseplant. It boasts new growth that begins as a bright lime green color and matures into a striking deep purple-black hue – a real glam goth beauty!

The plant’s glossy, dark leaves are small but wide, and they zig-zag up tall, slender stems. Additionally, the Zamioculcas zamiifolia Raven has the added benefit of air-purifying qualities, effectively removing volatile organic compounds such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene from the air.

Please note: these plants like to be pot-bound and the grow pots can often be distorted into an oval shape.

No touchy! ZZ plants love being pot-bound so be careful not to handle or separate the roots too much as this can cause stress to the plant.

Throwing shade… The ZZ plant will thrive even in shaded areas, making it an ideal desk buddy for dimly lit spaces!

The Zamioculcas zamiifolia is drought tolerant, so don’t be afraid to let the soil get a little dry before watering.

Light

Zamioculcas zamiifolia is shade tolerant and is perfectly happy in a wide range of light conditions, from low to bright. Avoid direct sunlight however, as this may scorch the plant.

Watering

Water when the soil has started to dry out. This plant is drought tolerant so do not be afraid to let it go without water for short periods to avoid overwatering.

Temperature

The Raven ZZ Plant does well in average to cool room temperatures, with a preferred range of 15°C to 24°C. This plant can tolerate temperatures as low as 8°C.

Humidity

The Zamioculcas zamiifolia ravenwill do fine in normal household humidity. Can cope with drier conditions for short periods if required.

Feed

Apply a weak dose of a liquid fertiliser once a month during the growing season.
